Octopus Energy has given a huge boost to local Scottish football by sponsoring grassroots clubs like Phoenix Girls FC with brand-new, snazzy football kits – completely for free.
Members of the company’s popular rewards program Octoplus could nominate their local teams for free Octokits in club colours and branding via a prize draw.
As part of its Octopus Kits for Kids giveaway, the energy company aimed to kit out 500 kids’ teams. But the response was so overwhelming that it accepted applications for more than five times the original number of orders in its first season.
Now in its third season, the giveaway has kitted out more than 4,500 grassroots Tentacle Teams, letting them hit the field in style with over 50,000 eye-catching sponsored kits. One of the sponsored teams is Phoenix Girls FC, ready to dazzle rivals with their new Octokits.
Phoenix Girls FC is one of a few female-only football clubs in Glasgow. Founded just four years ago, the club has grown rapidly, with 200 girls aged 6–17 now playing football regularly.
Looking ahead, the club has big ambitions, including plans to launch a women’s team and secure a permanent home by fundraising for its own pitches, changing rooms and facilities.
